Activity 3

Create a ‘Summer Seeds Cup’

Instructions:

1. First make a small hole in the bottom of the cup.

2. Glue the photo to the side of the cup or pot, with the top of the head level with the top of the cup or pot.

3. Next, fill the cup with soil.

4. Then sprinkle the seeds and add a layer of soil on to the top of them.

5. Give it a little water and place it in good sunlight on a window sill.

6. Check occasionally, and water to keep the soil moist as the seeds grow.

You will need:

A plastic cup or a small plant pot, some soil, seeds of your choice, (grasses and herbs work well) and a photo of the child's face, with the top of the head trimmed off. Please note the face photo looks best when it is the full size of the cup or plant pot.

Activity 5

What I would like to be when I grow up

This activity makes use of headband hats. Following the circle time discussion about what the children would like to be when they grow up, share the hat templates and encourage the children to colour them before cutting and then gluing them into a headband. They may need the expert help of their grown-up helpers to create a new hat that’s not included in the set, but encourage their ideas.

Instructions:

Colour and cut the hat.

Attach to the child’s card headband.

You will need:

Scissors, colouring pens, glue and a strip of card measured around the child's head and fastened like a crown with either a staple or glue. Job hats template.
