Wellbeing Dice
The dice can be used to introduce and explore the meaning of the 5 Steps to Wellbeing, or as a quick review after completing activities. These are just a few ideas - feel free to adapt and add to these.
To introduce the 5 steps to wellbeing
As a circle activity (if COVID-19 safety allows), roll the dice/invite a child to. Discuss the topic the dice shows. Write that theme on your whiteboard and collect suggestions from the children in response to these questions.... (example with 'connect' as face up)
- What do you think this means?
- What are the different ways that can people 'connect'?
- How do you think 'connecting' can help our Mental Wellbeing?
- What would be your preferred way to 'connect'?
You can cover all five themes in one session or focus on one theme per day/week, depending on how you plan to use the resources.
If the dice lands on the question mark, you could ask an open question about Mental Wellbeing, e.g.
- What makes you happy?
- How does it feel when you're doing something that you really enjoy?
Then roll again to get one of the themes and use the questions above.
As a review tool
Use the dice as a quick review or energiser activity at any time.
As a circle activity, roll the dice/invite a child to. Whichever face is displayed will be the topic for discussion. For example, if 'connect' is face up, you could ask:
- What's your favourite way to connect?
- How did it feel when you recently connected with someone?
If the dice lands on the question mark, children could choose the theme and talk about what they like to do for that theme.
